The highly anticipated high school drama "The Heirs," is gaining on the first-place ratings winner "Secrets." The melodrama "Secrets" had a 15.8 percent rating this week, while "The Heirs" rose to 13.4 percent.
And this week both dramas were all about the secrets.
"Secrets," which stars Ji Sung, Hwang Jung Eum, Bae Soo Bin and Lee Da Hee, saw Ji Sung openly declare his love for Hwang Jung Eum and reject his proposed marriage-business merger with Lee Da Hee. That secret threatened to cut him off from the father he so hoped to impress with his business acumen. But there are still plenty of secrets left to reveal, namely who killed Ji Sung's lost love and what actually happened to Hwang Jung Eum's father.
It's a show with a plot that often doesn't make enough sense but the acting is so good and the desire for justice so strong that viewers stay tuned. Hopefully Hwang Jung Eum's loyal self-sacrificing character will stop saying she is sorry in the last few episodes and get some revenge on the people who have treated her so badly.
In second place, "The Heirs" had a few secrets of its own to reveal. Lee Min Ho confessed his love for Park Shin Hye but that was hardly a secret. Kim Woo Bin discovered the secret of Park Shin Hye's background and met Lee Min Ho's actual mother. These secrets now place him in a position of power as he can use them to make life miserable for his rival and the girl he cares for. "The Heirs" only rose 0.3 percent in the rating, but it is gaining on "Secrets."
What is making this drama slightly more interesting in these last few episodes are the subtle signs of actual compassion and concern in Kim Woo Bin's character. Does the bully have a chance at redemption? There are hints that the long established pecking order in the heirs' school is about to change.
With such high anticipation for "The Heirs," MBC's drama "Medical Top Team," which stars Kwon Sang Woo, Jung Ryeo Won, Ju Ji Hoon, Oh Yeon Seo and SHINee's Choi Minho started with a serious disadvantage. And the drama never managed to recover. This week's ratings were a poor 4.4 percent of viewers.
On the variety show front, MBC's radio star earned 7.4 percent in the ratings, while the SBS show "Couples" earned 5.8 percent.
